No matter the reason why you started your exercise journey, fitness is an essential component of living a healthy life. So you go get a gym membership and in a couple of months you’re done and finished right? Not exactly, it is easy to start a daily exercise routine but sometimes hard to keep it! Gyms are sometimes way too expensive and can do more harm if you constantly compare your results with others. Personal trainers are even more expensive and may make people feel intimidated if they are just starting their fitness journey. With that in mind even though this is not always the case how do you stay motivated to keep it fun, long lasting, and maintainable?
Well there are so many ways to accomplish this and some ways you can incorporate into your everyday lifestyle. Working out at a local park is a great way to get out, work out, and meet new people while enjoying the scenery, and the best part is it will be free! There are also plenty of other options that we can bring up later but a “gym” can be anywhere or anyplace you can come up with! In Birmingham, AL railroad park is known for its beautiful scenery and friendly atmosphere. Additionally, it is the perfect place for residents to exercise in environment that is judgement free. Most would assume you could only run or walk at a park, but Railroad Park offers a “workout area” where people can do push ups, pull ups, dips, leg lifts, sit ups, and many more! In this area there are many poles and equipment that can be utilize for any exercise you may need! You can achieve more challenging workouts and not be inside of a gym.
If you're interested in cardio, walking or running would be your best option! Everyone knows you can walk or run at a park, but to spice up your cardio; try using the stairs or benches. You can do toe taps on the first step or bench for 3 sets of 15. If you enjoy squats then you can do jump squats on the first step for 3 sets of 10. Stairs are a great way to get your cardio in without doing the same thing everyday! If you need more guidance on what exercises to start with, on YouTube there are various people who demonstrate how to do exercise in outdoor gyms! So you don’t have to worry about going in blind! There are many resources that can help you get started on your exercise journey!
Exercises:
Toe Taps 3 sets of 10
Jump Squats 3 sets of 10
Push Ups 3 sets of 5
Leg Lifts 3 sets of 5
Dips 3 sets of 5
Sit Ups 3 sets of 5
Walking or Running 20-30 mins
*Remember to workout at your own pace. If you’re unable to do all 3 sets for 10, you can adjust the amount of reps. For example, if you are on your second set but cannot reach 10, then lower it to 5 or take a second to rest. Then try again!
